Hey everyone! I hope you're enjoying your Memorial Day weekend! I also hope that you'll take the time today to remember all those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Yesterday was such a gorgeous day to be out and about so I took my family down to Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville to view the 15,000 American flags they have on display this weekend. It was a pretty impressive display of flags, to say the least. My husband and I have been trying to explain all weekend long to our 5 year old what Memorial Day is all about and we thought bringing her down to view the flags would be a great learning experience for her.
I have to say, one of my proudest mommy moments happened during this outing. As we walked through Waterfront Park, she noticed that some of the flags had been knocked over, or blown over, or were tipped just right so they were on the ground. So what does she do? She carefully combs through the endless rows of flags and picks up dozens of knocked over flags and gently places them upright again. She understands that caring for our flag is an important expression of respect and happily spent time making sure the flags were upright and looking nice for anyone that wanted to view the display.
Proud mama right here! Alright everyone, have a fantastic weekend and please remember what Memorial Day is all about!
